The Annals of the Missouri Botanical Garden, published quarterly since 1914, contains peer-reviewed papers primarily devoted to systematic botany and evolution. The Annals reflect the global mission of the Garden, with contributing authors from the Americas, Africa, Europe, Asia, and Australasia.

Systematics Agenda 2000, a published report on a global initiative to discover, describe, and classify the world`s species, was the inspiration for this year`s Symposium. The speakers provided an overview of the diversity of systematic studies and the impact of these on the study of evolution, conservation, food supplies, disease sources, and disease prevention. Issue contains other papers.
