J. J. Grandville, whose true name was Jean Ignace Isadore Gérard, was famed for his imaginative artwork, many of these caricatures of women, but also ranging into nineteenth century political satire. This digital reproduction is of an illustration from Grandville's 1867 work, Les Fleurs Animees, an octavio with 54 leaves of plates produced as hand colored, etched steel engravings.
